One Year on...

Well this time last year I was rudely awaken by a call from my mum - 3 o'clock in the morning to say that Dad had died of a heart attack shortly after coming home from chess club the evening before... He was waiting for a double herat by-pass, but his departure at 67was a heck of a shock to us all.

Obviously mum misses him the most - but we all miss him badly.

And I guess I just wanted to say as much.

Since last year I know full well that people you love can die a lot earlier than you would have liked... and even when you know that they were going to die - ie after a long term illness - it is still a shock and nothing really prepares you for it.

At dad's funeral service which I was privilidged to take - I did my best to be positive - but it was hard.

We were the lucky ones - those who shared part of a wonderful man's life... and yes we miss him.

But I am comforted by the idea that he is now simply out of sight - that we wave him off in his boat - and as it disappears from view - as the curve of the horizon obscures our seeing him - yes we feel sadness that he isnt on our shore any more... but there is excitement too as his ship (I dunno whether I can convert his boat to ship so quickly) is spotted... A buzz of anticipation and delight from those crowded there waiting for him to land... lucky beggars -

I was particularly lucky to have really spent a much greater amount of time seeing dad in the few years prior to his death... my darling Maria thought he was great and we drove up to see him and mum more times than when I had been with my somewhat bitter ex-. And the game of koc for all its faults - gave us an excuse to talk - about King of Chaos initially - but about everything else too... for which I am forever greatful.

SunnyHeirReborn3 arose - cos I used to sign off my emails Sunny Heir - instead of sonny... When I join under dad with a small account back in Age 3 Beta I called my SunnyHeir3 - when Age 3 started I decided to keep the name but add Reborn to it... I finally deleted the SHR3 KOC account to concentrate on the Archangelat account in Age 6.. I shall pass the Archangelat account back to the original owner when Age 7 finally grinds to a halt...

I might bore you with the reasons for playing an online - realtime game... but thats for another time.

Hey Dad - I know you are doing well - love you

Busy Sports Week number one of three

Monday - the girls went to play netball against a school we have never beaten, despite the traffic problems and a twisting route that I had to talk them through - over the mobile (to the passenger!) they came back triumphant having won 11-2...

Tuesday - Swim GALA (I like to write it this way cos it sounds american - and although I realise americans write pretty poor "English" I none-the-less enjoy some of their sounds - at times... Anyway the races all went well - and we finished the full programme this year - but I might add last year wasnt my fault - the pool staff didnt put the lane ropes out soon enough..

Thursday - Inter-House Cross-country... 2 Juniors broke the sub 8-min barrier... and the record for the Junior event was absolutely ripped to shreds... the wonderkid has a dad who was with the Hungarian State Circus when he was younger... he sure is a real talent - only 3 15/16 year-olds have run the one lap faster in the past 9 years (he is 13)

Today - I get paperwork done for the Netball Tournament next week, and the Sports Weekend which takes place in 2 weeks time... I might add the Programme for the Senior 5-a-side Football (soccer to you Americans) went out earlier this week... The netabll is a first - the soccer (8 schools0 has been running 8 years.

This weekend - a break - I heard from my son... a single line of text on my mobile. He is having a "sleep-over" with some mate - somewhere... still as he hadnt written- phoned - emailed since I returned his rather rude letter 10 days ago I see it as a minor break through... maybe I will start writing once a day again - even if he "aint particularly (bovvered)" ouch - lol - etc

PS I have added some blog links - man these people can write - and their sites are awesome...

Flying visit to Hungary

Before I know it - my Hungarian trip has been and gone...
All that the Tuesday to Sunday trip seemed to entail was bus - train - train - plane - car - Tata - train - train - Szerencs - train - train - Tata - car - airport again lol - plane - train - train - home!

I couldn't for the life of me remember my log in at Szerencs internet cafe - lol - but at least I read my emails...

I think train is an ok way to travel through Hungary - u get a good slice of the countryside - and some of the urban landscape too I guess... its a lot different from UK - you simply wouldnt have buildings lying empty and abandoned so long - everything here is so valuable for rebuilding - there were 3 petrol stations on Kingston Hill a few years ago... now there is just the one.. and everywhere the little shops and terranced houses are being pulled down and replaced by upward expansion.. pub car parks (gone) and the pub garden (halved) in its place a block of flats... no such intensity in the Hungarian countryside - space sure seems much more abundant...

I should try and write more on my visit - however today I am off work with a cold and aching bones... :( I have some reports to do so - I will break the back of those after porridge and Golden Syrup...

all best everyone

A visit to my son

So that time has arrived at last - haha
once a month - I get to see my son in what is laughingly called "Open Access!"
Still what can you do?

I am again confined to a day visit - a dayout in Southampton and the surrounding area - not that there is anything wrong with Soton- Hants - far fromit - but it can hardly constitute a "normal" day - especially as it is such an infrequent occurence..
Bowling, swimming, film, shopping, McDonalds, pub lunch, who knows... at least I get to spend some time with my son - and today I also prepare in case - for golf, lacrosse, hockey (field hockey for you Americans) and War Hammer....

In case anyone ...

Just in case anyone actually reads this, and is wondering why on earth this site looks so - err - unprofessional - haha.
I am just experimeenting atm with pictures - they seem to be arriving a tad on the large size.

BTW - being on your own - not recommended - 2 weeks without Maria - and I am lost as a puppy in the city without a dog tag, collar or sense of direction lol

Ok - a couple of lines
I am off to see my beautiful wife very shortly - she has been away in hungary for almost 2 weeks - and we are both dying in our own ways to see each other again...

I am off to the bank - lol - better get some money in as Lastminute.com was cheap - but not that cheap for my airfare, and I have a couple of unbanked cheques.
